长者模式国家级经济技术开发区（以下简称经开区）是2010年6月经国务院批准的国家级经济技术开发区。目前，经开区管理面积157平方公里，常住人口约22万人，内有西城、南海子2个省级重点工业园区。历经28年的建设和发展，经开区已基本成为“经济增长的排头兵、产城融合的示范区、城市建设的样板区和人才成长的特区”。2019 年完成生产总值（GDP）146.37 亿元，同比增长11%；规模以上工业增加值56.09亿元，同比增长16.5%；固定资产投资67.76 亿元，同比增长21.6%；地方财政一般预算收入11.14 亿元，同比增长6.2%；社会消费品零售总额48.87 亿元，同比增长12.6%；城镇居民人均可支配收入41210 元，同比增长8.6%；农村常住居民人均可支配收入18250元，同比增长10.7%。恒大集团、红云红河集团、万达集团、家乐福、沃尔玛等一批世界和中国500强企业落地入驻。依托西安隆基、锦州阳光、河北晶龙、驰宏锌锗、深圳德方纳米、北京博晖、康恩贝制药、博浩生物等知名龙头企业，逐步形成了水电硅材加工一体化、新能源新材料、数字经济、生物医药大健康及绿色食品等特色优势产业板块。近年来，先后建成15条、总长30.8公里城市主次干道，建成瑞和公园等5个城市景观，新增绿化面积103.2万平方米。目前，建成区面积达18.87平方公里，基础设施配套和人居环境大幅提升。

水电硅材加工一体化产业:
经开区在南海子片区高起点规划了总用地1.04万亩的绿色硅晶产业园，已被授予云南省水电硅材加工一体化产业示范基地。依托水电成本低、要素保障齐、综合配套强、服务机制活等优势，以及隆基、晶澳、阳光3家全球光伏龙头企业的进驻，产业聚集的“磁力场”效应现已凸显。
重点聚焦两条主线：一条围绕单晶光伏产业链延链补链，发展拉棒及切片、电池片、组件及光伏发电系统；另一条围绕光伏产业配套，发展金刚线、光伏背板、封装胶膜、光伏支架、电池设备等。规划形成单晶硅棒产能70GW、切片70GW、电池片50GW、光伏组件20-30GW的全产业链基地，并计划在未来将拉棒及切片产能拓展到年产100GW以上，打造千亿级光伏产业园。

新能源新材料产业：
经开区新能源新材料产业园，位于经开区西城工业园区，规划面积5.21平方公里。依托区位优越、资源丰富、高质量用电保障、人力资源丰富、温度适宜等特点，目前产业园已初步形成储能电池的产业链。已引进了宁德时代、深圳市德方纳米、远景科技集团、上海宝钢气体等知名龙头企业。
重点发展两条主线：一条依托宁德时代、德方纳米建设的磷酸铁锂正极材料生产项目，重点发展电池正负极材料、隔膜、电芯、电解液、电池pack等配套产业。一条依托远景科技集团风机设备、储能电池生产项目，大力发展储能电池、能源物联网、风电开发及装备制造，并积极引入塔筒、机舱罩、叶片、电控柜等风电装备制造配套产业。

生物医药大健康和绿色食品产业：经开区生物医药产业园位于经开区西城工业园区，规划面积约8400亩，紧紧围绕全省打造绿色发展“三张牌”和全市“六大重点产业”的决策部署，依托当地丰富的生物资源、天蓝水碧的生态环境及良好的气候条件优势，重点规划了市区域医疗中心、经开区生物医药大健康产业园和绿色食品产业园（简称“一中心两片区”）。
